Activities of foreign affiliates.
UNCTAD continues to collect data on the activities of foreign affiliates, including those in the services sector.
It addresses a non-exhaustive set of issues that deserve careful consideration in exploring the development dimension of FDI andthe implications arising from the activities of foreign affiliates of TNCs.
Data work on measuring the flows of Foreign Direct Investment and the Activities of Foreign Affiliates has been ongoing for a number of years at the OECD.

In August, representatives from national agencies of COMESA member States attended the first COMESA/UNCTAD Regional Workshop on the Common Survey on FDI/TNC Statistics,preparing a survey on FDI flows and stocks, and on the activities of foreign affiliates of TNCs.
The first Common Market of Eastern and Southern Africa(COMESA)/UNCTAD Regional Workshop on the Common Survey on Foreign Direct Investment/Transnational Corporation Statistics was held in August 2008 to prepare a survey on foreign direct investment flows and stocks and activities of foreign affiliates of transnational corporations that will be commonly used in COMESA, or become the basis of the survey used in each member State.
In addition, national workshops are being held for the COMESA member States to assist officials in ministries and national agencies who deal with statistical issues on FDI prepare for the implementation of an effective survey system to collect anddisseminate data on FDI flow and stock and activities of foreign affiliates.
To alleviate this problem, UNCTAD has undertaken a technical cooperation project, partly financed by the Development Account, to collect andharmonize statistics on FDI and the activities of foreign affiliates in developing countries.
It will raise the awareness of member States regarding internationally accepted standards with respect to FDI data collection and reporting systems,including with respect to the activities of foreign affiliates in host countries.
