The delegation of Oman welcomed the adoption by the General Assembly of resolution 64/10 on 5 November 2009 on the follow-up to the report of the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict and the adoption of the recommendations contained in that report.
The delegation of Oman believes that it is high time, in the current favourable international climate, to review the work of this Commission and take a number of practical steps that can transform the Indian Ocean into a zone of peace and cooperation among the peoples and States of the region and of the entire world.
In addition, from the time the delegation of Oman accepted the General Assembly's invitation to act as coordinator on road safety issues within the United Nations system, the World Health Organization, together with the United Nations regional commissions, has been a reliable and dedicated partner.
The delegation of Oman believes that it is the authority of the Charter of the United Nations that should prevail and must prevail, and that any contradiction with any of its provisions should nullify any resolution or decision that runs counter to those provisions regardless of the source of such resolution or decision.
