This monitoring system should allow better understanding of the processes of land degradation, including the effects of climatic variability and human activities, and of the efficiency of the activities undertaken to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate variability and human activities on land degradation. .
Poverty eradication, as a cause or effect of land degradation in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas, is considered to be the priority in combating desertification.
