On Wednesday morning, I received the first complete version of a draft outcome document from the facilitators, Ambassador Frank Majoor of the Netherlands and Ambassador Camillo Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Chairman of the Sierra Leone country-specific configuration, Frank Majoor, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the United Nations, visited Sierra Leone from 9 to 15 October to obtain first-hand information about the post-election situation and the peacebuilding priorities of the new Government and to discuss the ongoing work of the Peacebuilding Commission.
On behalf of the General Assembly, I would like to thank the Chairman of the Third Committee, His Excellency Mr. Frank Majoor of the Netherlands, the other members of the Bureau and all representatives for a job well done.
In that connection, we would like to thank Ambassador Frank Majoor of the Netherlands and Ambassador Paulette Bethel of the Bahamas for serving as Vice-Chairpersons of the Open-ended Working Group on the Question of Equitable Representation on and Increase in the Membership of the Security Council and Other Matters Related to the Security Council during the sixtieth session of the General Assembly.
We are particularly pleased to offer special congratulations to Ambassadors Paulette Bethel of the Bahamas and Frank Majoor of the Netherlands, the two Vice-Chairs of the Working Group, for their work in leading the consultations over the past year.
We note, for instance, that a draft outline of the country-specific workplan for Sierra Leone and a draft calendar for the country-specific meetings of the Commission have been prepared, thanks to the Chairman of theSierra Leone country-specific meetings, Ambassador Frank Majoor of the Netherlands, and to Ambassador Johan Løvald of Norway.
The 14-member delegation was led by Ambassador Frank Majoor, the Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the United Nations, in his capacity as Chairman of the Sierra Leone configuration.
I would like to add that other colleagues, our colleagues from El Salvador as well as our colleague from Norway and, of course,our colleague, Frank Majoor, from the Netherlands, greatly contributed to the success that we are all acclaiming today.
I would like to take this opportunity,on behalf of my co-Vice-Chair, Ambassador Frank Majoor, and myself, to thank President Eliasson, as well as the Member States, for the trust and confidence reposed in us through our appointments.
I would also like to thank the Permanent Representative of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Mr. Camillo Gonsalves, andthe Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Frank Majoor, for their skilful stewardship in the drafting of the outcome document of this Conference.
My appreciation also goes to the two facilitators of the preparatory process,Ambassador Frank Majoor of the Netherlands and Ambassador Camillo Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who skilfully guided the negotiations on the outcome document(A/CONF.214/3) adopted last Friday.
In this context, our gratitude goes to the Chairmen of the two country-specific meetings,Ambassador Frank Majoor for Sierra Leone and Ambassador Johan Løvald for Burundi, for their important input and reports earlier in the debate.
