The Workshop noted that States would be able to offer entities involved in space activities legal certainty and transparency by developing andpublishing national space laws and relevant regional agreements, particularly in the context of the increasing commercialization and privatization of space activities.

The Workshop provided an overview of the United Nations treaties andprinciples on outer space, examined and compared various aspects of existing national space laws and considered opportunities for university-level studies in space law. .
The view was expressed that preserving the rights and obligations under the United Nations treaties on outer space during the application of new instruments was not a new issue, since it emerged also in other areas of international law andin the relationship between international space law and national space laws adopted by individual States.
The objectives of the Workshop were to promote understanding, acceptance and implementation of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space, to promote exchange of information on domestic space laws and policies for the benefit of professionals involved in the development and implementation of those policies and to consider opportunities for university-level studies in space law, with a view to promoting national expertise and capability in this field.
