At the 23rd meeting, on 3 November, the representative of Switzerland, on behalf of Switzerland and Tunisia, introduced a draft resolution entitled"World Summit on the Information Society" A/C.2/59/L.18.

At its 550th, 551st and 552nd meetings, the Committee decided to invite, at their request, representatives of Angola, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, the Holy See,Israel, Switzerland and Tunisia to attend its forty-ninth session and to address it, as appropriate, on the understanding that it would be without prejudice to further requests of that nature and that it would not involve any decision of the Committee concerning status.
The note verbale received 13 responses: from Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, China, Côte d'Ivoire, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Japan, Poland,Qatar, Switzerland and Tunisia.
Mr. Khane(Secretary of the Committee) said that Ecuador, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua,Suriname, Switzerland and Tunisia had joined the sponsors.
The session was also attended by observers from the following States: Belgium, Croatia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Indonesia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, Slovakia,Slovenia, Switzerland and Tunisia.
Subsequently, Austria, Costa Rica, Finland, Greece, Haiti, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal,Sweden, Switzerland and Tunisia joined the sponsors.

Adama Samassekou(Mali) was elected as President of the Preparatory Committee, along with 14 Vice-Presidents and 1 Vice-President each from Switzerland and Tunisia ex officio, these constituting the Bureau of the Preparatory Committee.

The Governments of Austria, Bahamas, Bulgaria, Finland, Iran(Islamic Republic of), Nigeria, Portugal,Slovakia, Switzerland and Tunisia were represented by observers.
Mr. Benmellouk(Morocco), Vice-Chairman, introduced draft resolution A/C.2/57/L.42, entitled"World Summit on the Information Society",prepared on the basis of informal consultations held on draft resolution A/C.2/57/L.7, submitted by Switzerland and Tunisia.

At the 748th meeting, on 26 March, the Chairman informed the Subcommittee that requestshad been received from Azerbaijan, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland and Tunisia to attend the session as observers.
