Mr. Chave(Switzerland): We should like to thank the co-chairs for having guided us through the system-wide coherence process this year and for their efforts in fostering consensus among Member States on a variety of issues of great importance for the further improvement of the effectiveness of the United Nations system.
We should like to thank the Secretary-General for his comprehensive report, which examines various aspects of the relationship between armed violence and development and which identifies armed violence as an emerging problem that undermines development and constitutes an impediment to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
We should like to thank the Committee for these efforts, which have mobilized the solidarity of all the peoples of the United Nations into a tidal wave of support for the Palestinians, a peace- and justice-loving people that has suffered for far too long and whose only ambition is to build its own independent State like all other Members of this Organization.
