Andrea del Verrocchio.
Verrocchio's been looking for you.
Andrea del Verrocchio.
Verrocchio designed the locks.
By your allegiance, Verrocchio, tell me now!
As if painted by a student in the school of Andrea Verrocchio!
I owe Verrocchio… everything I am.
The Baptism of Christ, 1474-1475, Verrocchio and Leonardo.
Verrocchio left most of the everyday jobs to a group of apprentices.
And he helped his master Verrocchio on his“Baptism of Christ” work.
Verrocchio used a lead-based paint for at least parts of his Virgin Mary.
He often commissioned work from one of the busiest studios in Florence, owned by the wealthy craftsman Verrocchio.
It's a statue made by Verrocchio, of David, for which Leonardo posed as a boy of 15.
The earliest work is‘The Baptism of Christ' from the late 15th century, most probably created in the atelier of Andrea del Verrocchio.
His work so impressed Verrocchio that the old man was said to have given up painting for good.
Those are brass panels positioned according to my calculations, each held at precise angles by Verrocchio and his assistants.
For example, the sculptures"David" and"Young Warrior" by Andrea del Verrocchio are thought to be modeled on Leonardo, who was an apprentice for the older artist.
He is said to have created it around 1472, when he was 19 or20 and a pupil of the Florentine artist Andrea del Verrocchio.
In 1466, at the age of fourteen,Leonardo became apprenticed to the artist Andrea di Cione, known as Verrocchio, whose workshop was supposedly one of the finest in Florence.
However, his doctorate from Berlin University(where he was later professor of musicology) in 1904 was on the history of art, with his thesis on the sculpture of Verrocchio.
Verrocchio was one of the finest sculptors of the Renaissance and tutor to both Leonardo da Vinci and Sandro Botticelli, but very few paintings by him have been identified with any certainty.
Many sculptors also practised in other arts, sometimes painting, like Andrea del Verrocchio, or architecture, like Giovanni Pisano, Michelangelo, or Jacopo Sansovino, and maintained large workshops.
Andrea del Verrocchio is an iconic personality, an outstanding Italian sculptor and Renaissance painter, who, thanks to his talent and inexhaustible industriousness, managed to leave a deep mark on world culture.
The façade is characterized by a complex scheme with sgraffiti representing allegorical figures and zodiacal signs, designed by Vasari himself andsculpted by Tommaso di Battista del Verrocchio and Alessandro Forzori, coupled to busts and marble crests.
Verrocchio seems to have begun the picture and begun it in a traditional medium of egg tempera, which is an egg binder for the pigments, and at some point, Leonardo intervened and finished the picture, and he painted an angel.
While still a teenager, Leonardo earned an apprenticeship with one of the most renowned artists of the time,Andrea del Verrocchio, and it is widely considered that their most notable collaboration during this period was The Annunciation.
Apart from The Baptism of Christ(around 1475), which has been attributed to both Verrocchio and Leonardo, the gallery owns the first known drawing signed and dated by the artist, a view of the Arno, and, most importantly, the Annunciation(around 1472).
After removing layers of old retouching work, and examining the underdrawing with infrared reflectography,it became clear that Verrocchio himself painted the Virgin, the angel on the left and the landscape in the background, while his assistant, Lorenzo di Credi, painted the angel on the right and the infant Christ.
