Josif Pančić School of Agriculture.
The first President of the Academy was Josif Pančić and the Secretary was Jovan Žujović.
Josif Pančić was a very important scholar of natural sciences, not only on local level but in global scope as well.
When the Serbian Royal Academy wasfounded on November 1, 1886, Josif Pančić was named its first president.
Josif Pančić(1814-1888), the founding father of Serbian botany, started the plant collecting in Serbia about half a century before the establishment of the Museum.
It all began with the efforts of famous Serbian botanist Josif Pančić, after whom many generations added their good will.
There are also numerous remains of medieval mines and smelteries andat the top of Nebeske stolice there is a mausoleum that houses the remains of Josif Pančić, Serbia's famous botanist.
And the Principality of Serbia realized who Josif Pančić was, accepted him and supported him, applauded and awarded each of his successes.
Our students are gathered within the Scientific and Research Society of Biology and Ecology Students“Josif Pančić“ which was established 30 years ago.
The monument in Belgrade was installed to commemorate Josif Pančić(1814- 1888), Serbian medical doctor, scientist, botanist, and the first president of the Serbian Royal Academy.

Zaovine are particularly well known as the place where Josif Pančić in 1875 revealed spruce(Picea omorika), a living fossil plant.
The Board of the Fund included the President Kosta Cukić, Secretary Ljubomir Nenadović, and noteworthy members Panta Jovanović, Emilijan Josimović,Miloje Lešjanin, Dimitrije Matić and Josif Pančić.
The herbarium was established in 1860 when the famous Serbian botanist Josif Pančić gave his herbarium collection to the Great School, the current University of Belgrade.
Apart from flora, Josif Pančić also studied fauna; he discovered two species of grasshoppers, studied fish and birds, and was a predecessor of ecology in Serbia, was active in pedagogic work and wrote textbooks.
In this way, the famous scientist, professor of botany andfounder of the Botanical Garden Josif Pančić, 130 years ago, defined the purpose and function of the Botanical Garden.
Already in 1856, the famous botanist Josif Pančić, first president of the Serbian Royal Academy, sent a letter to the government warning it that Avala, the valuable oasis of flora and fauna, is dramatically endangered.
Europe's finest conifer, the Serbian spruce/ Picea fennel/ is an endemic rare species, one of the oldest in the European flora,discovered by the famous botanist and scientist, Josif Pančić on the Tari Mountains in 1875.
Along with HabiProt,the members of the SRSBES“Josif Pančić” are also taking part in project realization, as well as, numerous individuals who are helping this project in various ways.
The establishment of the library began in 1853 on Belgrade Lyceum, Lyceum of the Principality of Serbia, at the Cabinet for the natural history,where Josif Pančić was lecturer and collected literature for the needs of his research as well as for the needs of teaching.
When Josif Pančić left his home village Ugrini near Bribir, in the Austrian Empire, and headed to distant Pest to study medicine, he never thought that this journey would take him even farther, into the then small and new Principality of Serbia.
During this period we were also visited by our friends from SRSBES“Josif Pančić” from Novi Sad, NGO“Riparia” from Subotica, and PE“Palić-Ludaš”, managers of protected areas in surrounding of Subotica.
Josif Pančić(1814- 1888), accompanied by the publication with the same name, as an homage to the great scientist, teacher and educator, and at the same time astonishing and prominent human being, who through his hard work, knowledge, way of life and numerous good deeds has obligated Serbia and its people forever.
The research team of this project was once again established by the members of the Association“HabiProt” andthe Scientific Research Society of Biology and Ecology Students“Josif Pančić” from Novi Sad(Jelena Šeat- coordinator, Bojana Nadaždin, Nikola Milić and Mirjana Ćuk- team members).
Until the end of the third decade of the 20th century, the monument was at its original location, in the square in front of the Hotel Serbian Crown, when, during the formation of the Academic park on the site of the former Great Market,it was moved to this park as a pair to the monument dedicated to the great Serbian scientist Josif Pančić.
In cooperation with our team andfinancial support of the Wikimedia Serbia, colleagues from the SRSBES“Josif Pančić” successfully ended a project in 2017 that was aiming to inform the general public about the natural values of saline habitats and the importance of their conservation.
At that time, many eminent scientists worked at Lyceum: Josif Pančić, Đura Daničić, Janko Šafarik, Emilijan Joksimovic and others. The establishment of Serbian Ministry of Construction in 1862, with its task to take care of''roads and bridges construction and maintenance, streets and river regulation, building up monuments and public buildings'', set the basis of construction legislation in Serbia.
The Djerdap area was and still is quite intriguing for botanists- both florists and phytogeographists- which is upheld by the fact that during his research of the flora ofthe Kingdom of Serbia, Serbian botanist Josif Pančić visited Djerdap and its surroundings no fewer than 12 times in the period from 1853 to 1876, including visits to Danubian sands on both sides of the gorge.
