First, and following the invitation made by the Council, monitoring by the Commission of the quality of reported fiscal data has to be reinforced; to that effect, a proposal for a Council Regulation amending Regulation(EC)No 3605/93 as regards the quality of statistical data in the context of the excessive deficit procedure[12] was adopted by the Commission on 2 March 2005 and is currently under discussion.
The statistical quality of data, in particular their relevance including completeness, accuracy including coverage, timeliness, coherence, comparability and accessibility, shall be a fundamental objective and shall be pursued in close cooperation between the Member States and the Commission Eurostat.
Cooperation with the CSO allowed NBS statisticians to gain extensive substantive and practical knowledge in the field of agriculture and forestry statistics,which would improve the quality of the statistical data collected in those fields.
