In the case of Prosecutor v. Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, a scheduling order was issued announcing that the trial judgement would be delivered on 30 May 2013.
However, both Stanišić and Župljanin have called on fewer witnesses than initially anticipated, which has offset some of the delays caused by reducing court-sitting time.
In the case of Prosecutor v. Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, the two accused are charged with five counts of crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war.
The latest trial schedule estimates that in 2011, only the Karadžić, Stanišić and Simatović and Stanišić and Župljanin trials will still be in the evidence stage.
It was forecast that the Stanišić and Simatović trial would be completed in February 2011, but the estimate has been revised to July 2012, reflecting a 17-month delay.
In addition, seven cases are on appeal(Šainović et al., Popović et al., Ðorđević, Tolimir, Stanišić and Župljanin, Prlić et al., and Stanišić and Simatović).
It was forecast that the Stanišić and Župljanin trial would be completed in October 2010, but the estimate has since been revised to June 2012, reflecting a 20month delay.
At the same time, four first-instance cases(Šešelj, Perišić, M. Stanišić and Župljanin and Tolimir) originally scheduled for completion in 2010, now extend through 2011 and into 2012.
At the end of this reporting period, nine trials will be ongoing: Prlić et al.; Šešelj; Đorđević; Perišić; Gotovina et al.; Stanišić and Simatović; Stanišić and Župljanin; and Karadžić.
The Trial Chamber, composed of Judges Hall(presiding), Delvoie and Harhoff, found Mićo Stanišić and Stojan Župljanin guilty of crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war.
Fifteen decisions on interlocutory appeals were issued in the following cases: Prlić et al.(10); Stanišić and Simatović(2); Stanišić and Župljanin(1); and Haradinaj et al.(2).
One Judge is assigned to the Stanišić and Simatović case, and the Presiding Judge has recently been assigned to preside over the retrial of Haradinaj et al. The current expectation is that the judgement will be delivered by June 2011.
On 30 May, Jovica Stanišić, former Chief of the Serbian State Security Service, and Franko Simatović, former employee of the Serbian State Security Service, were acquitted of all charges by the Tribunal.
The judgement is scheduled to be issued in July 2012, although due to the factors described above--in particular the health of Stanišić and the unknown length of the Defence cases-- this assessment is tentative.
