The Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies suggests that magnesium from supplements and dietary intake should not exceed 350 mg while at the same setting an RDA for some populations above this.
The Food and Nutrition Board of the US Institute of Medicine set an adequate intake(AI) of 5 milligrams(mg)/day for adults based on the estimated daily average intake of pantothenic acid.
For this reason, the Food and Nutrition Board of the US Institute of Medicine advises that all adults limit their intake of folic acid(supplements and fortification) to 1,000 μg(1 mg) daily.
However, the Food and Nutrition Board of the IOM conservatively set the tolerable upper intake level(UL) at 4,000 IU/day(100 μg/day) for all adults(Table 3).
In order to prevent copper deficiency, the US Food and Nutrition Board set the tolerable upper intake level(UL) for adults at 40 mg/day, including dietary and supplemental zinc(5; Table 3).
The U.S. Food and Nutrition Board has set a tolerable upper intake level(UL) for magnesium, defining the highest level of daily supplemental magnesium intake likely to pose no risk of diarrhea or gastrointestinal disturbance in almost all individuals(4).
Based on the prevention of deficiency symptoms─ rather than on health promotion andprevention of chronic disease─ the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board has set recommended dietary allowance(RDA) values for vitamin E(alpha-tocopherol)(2).

The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine considers an intake of 25 mcg(1,000 IU) for infants up to 12 months of age and 50 mcg(2,000 IU) for children, adults, pregnant, and lactating women to be the tolerable upper intake level(UL).
Because there was little information on the requirements of pantothenic acid in humans, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine set an adequate intake(AI) based on observed dietary intakes in healthy population groups(Table 1)(16).
However, the European Food Safety Authority andthe U.S. Food and Nutrition Board have decided that there is insufficient scientific data from human intervention trials to set a precise figure for a tolerable upper intake level(UL) of isolated beta-carotene(46, 1).

Due to the lack of reports of adverse effects when the Dietary Reference Intakes(DRI) for pantothenic acid were established in 1998,the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine did not establish a tolerable upper intake level(UL) for pantothenic acid(16).
In light of consistent evidence from prospective cohort studies that fiber-rich diets are associated with significant reductions in cardiovascular disease risk, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine established its first recommended intake levels for fiber in 2001(4).
Insufficient folate intake by pregnant women can cause birth defects such as spina bifida and neural tube defects, and the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends that all women of childbearing age should get the RDA(400 micrograms) of folate, or 600 micrograms if they are pregnant.
In order to be very sure of preventing irreversible neurological damage in vitamin B12-deficient individuals, the Food and Nutrition Board of the US Institute of Medicine advises that all adults limit their intake of folic acid(supplements and fortification) to 1,000 μg(1 mg) daily(Table 3).
