Accelerate follow-up to the decisions and recommendations of global conferences at the national, subregional and regional levels; evaluate progress andprovide guidance on the implementation of the New Delhi Action Plan on Infrastructure Development in Asia and the Pacific being coordinated by the Commission.
In its resolution on infrastructure development in Asia and the Pacific, the Commission welcomed the draft action plan on infrastructure development in Asia and the Pacific and reiterated the members' and associate members' commitment and determination to strengthen their infrastructure and to cooperate in improving subregional and regional infrastructure. .
The Commission expressed satisfaction with the evaluation of the Decade undertaken by the secretariat and endorsed the recommendations contained in document E/ESCAP/1059,including those designed to assist in the effective implementation of the New Delhi Action Plan on Infrastructure Development in Asia and the Pacific.

To promote an efficient, integrated,safe and sustainable infrastructure development in the region, through the implementation of the New Delhi Action Plan on Infrastructure Development in Asia and the Pacific; to develop interregional and intraregional transport linkages; to promote the development of sustainable tourism through the formulation and implementation of planning policies and human resources development. .

Transport policy planning models(XB); monitoring and coordination database in support of phase II of the Transport and Communications Decade for Asia andthe Pacific and the New Delhi action plan on infrastructure development in Asia and the Pacific(XB); and development of Asian highway database.
Expected accomplishments would include:(a)substantial completion of the New Delhi Action Plan on Infrastructure Development in Asia and the Pacific(1997-2006) and of the Plan of Action for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Asian and Pacific Region(1999-2005); and(b) improved capacity in the public and private sectors to develop appropriate policies and strategies and achieve greater integration and operational efficiency.
