Text of the Code of Medical Ethics.
The confidentiality of medical assistance is compulsory for all doctors, without discrimination, as established by the Code of Medical Ethics.
It conducts its work in accordance with the code of medical ethics and in confidentiality.
After the war, these crimes were tried at what became known as the Doctors' Trial, andthe abuses perpetrated led to the development of the Nuremberg Code of medical ethics.
WHO points out that the"Background Note" tothe Principles affirmed that"(a) detailed code of medical ethics applicable in all contexts and in all times is… unthinkable.

Since Algeria's last periodic report was prepared, various laws and regulations have been promulgated, including the Commercial Code, the Investment Code, the Customs Code, the Code of Medical Ethics and the Electoral Code. .
This code was followed by the Declaration of Geneva,the International Code of Medical Ethics and the Declaration of Helsinki, adopted by the World Medical Association in September 1945, and revised in October 1949, June 1969 and September 1989 respectively.
Apart from the basic Health Care Act, the right to free choice is established in the Act on the Protection of Patients' Rights(OG 163/04), the Act on the Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders(OG 111/97, 27/98, 128/99,79/02), and the Code of Medical Ethics and Deontology.
Replying to a question raised by Mr. Rasmussen,he said that the code of medical ethics provided a general framework for the duties of doctors, and stipulated that a doctor must never cooperate in any act of torture, nor allow premises, instruments or medicine to be used for that purpose.

However, the Code of Medical Ethics adopts the criterion of intellectual development in the doctor-patient relationship, which expressly provides for respect to the opinion of children and adolescents, the preservation of professional confidentiality, and full assistance, so long as the patient is capable of evaluating the problem and solving it through her own means.
Examples of such countries are the Central African Republic, the Dominican Republic, Egypt and the Philippines, where general principles of criminal law permit abortion to save the woman's life; Colombia, Mauritius and San Marino, where legal interpretation generally permits abortion to save the woman's life; Honduras,where the Code of Medical Ethics permits it to save the woman's life; and Nepal where rulesof the Medical Council permit it.
International Code of Medical Ethics, adopted at the 35th World Medical Assembly at Venice(Italy) in October 1983, which stipulates in its"Duties of physicians in general":"A physician shall preserve absolute confidentiality on all he knows about his patient even after the patient has died";
Where medical ethics are concerned, mention should be made of the establishment of a Committee on Medical Ethics and Academic Conduct within the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de la República through Decree No. 258/92, which for the first time in domestic law regulates the ethical standards applicable to medical conduct, and of the Uruguayan Medical Association's adoption by a direct vote of its own Code of Medical Ethics.
For example, in Honduras, the Code of Medical Ethics permits abortion to save the woman's life; in Nepal, the rules of the Medical Council have been interpreted to permit abortion in various situations; and in Ireland the Supreme Court has ruled that an abortion can be performed to preserve the life of the pregnant woman.
In the field of public health, training and information activities for medical staff are provided by the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform on refresher courses for the staff of rehabilitation centres, in accordance with the above-mentioned law on health protection andpromotion and article 12 of the code of medical ethics(Executive Decree No. 92-276 of 6 July 1997), as mentioned in Algeria's second periodic report.
At the same time, article 12 of Executive Decree No. 92-276 of 6 July 1992, the Code of Medical Ethics, stipulates that"a doctor or dental surgeon who is asked or required to examine a detainee may not, whether directly or indirectly, even if only by being present, encourage or support an attack on the detainee's physical or mental integrity or dignity.

The General Assembly of World Medical Associations has developed A Code of Medical Ethics(1949, 1968, 1983) setting forth the general responsibilities of a doctor regarding professionalism, humanity, respect for patient rights, responsibilities towards patients, the obligation to preserve human life, to keep medical information confidential, to provide emergency assistance to any patient in need, and the responsibilities of doctors to one another.
