I would like to make three points in connection with this agenda item.

In connection with this agenda item, the Working Party may wish to learn about the progress made in the use of GIS within the AGR Agreement, and have a discussion on the possibility of carrying out a similar development for AGC data.
In connection with this agenda item the Principal Working Party may note that the Committee, at its fifty-ninth session, established guidelines for the presentation of the activities in its programme of work.
In connection with this agenda item, it is recalled that the Working Party intended to devote the first day of its fifty-fourth session to the item concerning the sub-division of the NST/2000 classes TRANS/WP.6/143, para. 39.
In connection with this agenda item, the Working Party mentioned possible developments of evaluation methodologies and felt that further technical work was necessary to reach a common understanding on the assessment of transport infrastructure projects.
In connection with this agenda item, the Committee will also be informed of the progress achieved by the Working Party on Facilitation of International Trade Procedures and its subsidiary bodies, including on EDIFACT, since the previous session of the Committee.
In connection with this agenda item, the Working Party may also consider questions related to the implementation of the Pan-European transport corridors in the New Independent States(NIS), as defined at the Third Pan-European Transport Conference in Helsinki.
In connection with this agenda item, The Working Party may also wish to consider the proposed collaboration between the UIC and the IWG as presented in document TRANS/WP.6/2001/12 and comment on the various areas of cooperation between UIC and the IWG.
In connection with this agenda item, it is recalled that, at its fifty-second session, the Working Party drafted a Resolution on the Reduction of the Border Stopping Time of Shuttle Trains in International Traffic, which was submitted to the ITC for adoption.
In connection with this agenda item, the Committee may also note that the Working Party, at its tenth session, felt that further technical work was necessary to reach a common understanding on the assessment of transport infrastructure projects.
In connection with this agenda item, the Working Party may wish to take note of and to consider the document concerning the Rail Chapter to be included in the third edition of the Glossary of Transport Statistics, which will be circulated in document TRANS/WP.6/2002/3.
In connection with this agenda item it may be noted that, in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 11 of the AGC Agreement, at the request of a Contracting Party, any amendment proposed by it to Annex I to the AGC shall be considered by the Principal Working Party on Rail Transport.
In connection with this agenda item, the Committee may also take note of the discussion of the Principal Working Party on Rail Transport at its fifty-first session regarding the extension of the international rail network(AGC) to the Caucasus and central Asian UN/ECE member States.
In connection with this agenda item, the Committee may note that the Working Party(WP.5) had discussed whether it should continue the exchange of views on annual trends of national transport policies or focus on a specific item in order to reach more concrete results.
In connection with this agenda item, it is recalled that the Principal Working Party agreed to examine in more detail at its forthcoming session the possibility to determine a maximum time limit of e.g. 60 minutes for shuttle trains in international rail traffic TRANS/SC.2/186, para. 37.
Also in connection with this agenda item, a revised draft decision entitled"Implementation of the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime" was adopted(decision 4/5). For the discussion, see chapter V, section A.
In connection with this agenda item, the Committee will be informed of:(i) the South-east European Cooperative Initiative(SECI),(ii) the Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia(SPECA),(iii) the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization(BSEC),(v) progress on the TEM and TER Projects, and(vi) other advisory services provided.
In connection with this agenda item, the Committee may also note that the G-24 Transport Working Group, at its session on 2-3 December 1997 in Brussels, had agreed that the UN/ECE should take overall responsibility for the monitoring of progress in the follow-up of the Helsinki Conference related to the Euro-Asian links item(4) in the Chairman's Executive Summary of the Meeting.
