The Vice-Chair of the fifty-first session, Ms. Larysa Belskaya(Belarus), recalled that at the 1st meeting of the fifty-first session, held on 10 February 2012,the Commission had elected His Excellency Gyan Chandra Acharya(Nepal) as Chair.

Ambassador Gyan Chandra Acharya of Nepal, speaking on behalf of the Group of Least Developed Countries, lauded the constructive and flexible spirit in which least developed countries and their development partners had deliberated during the session.

I have the honour to refer to the letter dated 5 May 2010 from Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, in which he requested, on behalf of his Government, the extension of the current mandate of the United Nations Mission in Nepal from 15 May until 15 September 2010 see annex.
At the inaugural session, statements were made by Federico González, Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs and Integration of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Antonio Prado,Deputy Executive Secretary of ECLAC, and Gyan Chandra Acharya, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.
Following the Special Representative's presentation, the Permanent Representative of Nepal, Ambassador Gyan Chandra Acharya, thanked the United Nations for supporting his country's peace process, but said that the latest report of the Secretary-General could have been more balanced to better reflect the situation on the ground.

I have the honour to refer to the attached letter of 9 January 2010 addressed to me by the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Gyan Chandra Acharya, in which he requested, on behalf of his Government, the extension of the current mandate of the United Nations Mission in Nepal from 23 January until 15 May 2010.

Lewis, Director, Economic Policy and Debt Department, World Bank; Jean-Marie Paugam, Deputy Executive Director, International Trade Centre; and Vicente Yu, Programme Coordinator, Global Governance for Development Programme, South Centre.
Accordingly, the Commission held the first meeting of its fifty-first session on 10 February 2012, immediately following the closure of the fiftieth session, andelected by acclamation Gyan Chandra Acharya(Nepal) as Chair and Larysa Belskaya(Belarus), Amira Fahmy(Egypt) and Emma Aparici(Spain) as ViceChairs, with the remaining candidate from the Latin American and Caribbean States still to be nominated.
At the meeting held in parallel to its 20th meeting, on 7 July,the Council continued the general debate of its high-level segment and heard statements by Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations(on behalf of the Group of Least Developed Countries); Mohamad Cissé, Secretary-General of the Ministry of International Cooperation, Guinea; Pablo Cevallos Estarellas, Vice-Minister for Education of Ecuador; and Benjalug Namfa, Inspector General, Ministry of Education of Thailand.
