In addition to octaBDE isomers,c-octaBDE contains significant amounts of other component groups(such as pentabromodiphenyl(pentaBDE) and hexabromodiphenyl ethers) with persistent organic pollutant(POP) characteristics.
HexaBDE: hexabromodiphenyl ether benzene, 1,1'-oxybis-, hexabromo derivative.
However, the EU Risk Assessment Report identifies a risk of secondary poisoning in other species(via ingestion of earthworms) for the hexabromodiphenyl ether component in the c-octaBDE product from use in polymer applications.
HexaBDE: hexabromodiphenyl ether benzene, 1,1,1'-oxybis-, hexabromo derivative.
Commercial PeBDE is a mixture of polybrominated diphenylethers, particularly those with four bromines(tetrabromodiphenyl ethers; TeBDE), five bromines(pentabromodiphenyl ethers; PeBDE) and,to a lesser extent, six bromines hexabromodiphenyl ethers; HxBDE.

As penta- and hexabromodiphenyl ethers(which have POP characteristics) occur in c-octaBDE, relevant information about these two compounds is also provided, where appropriate.
The Conference of the Parties, in accordance with parts IV and V of Annex A,conducts reviews of specific exemptions related to hexabromodiphenyl ether and heptabromodiphenyl ether, and to tetrabromodiphenyl ether and pentabromodiphenyl ether. .
However, when the hexabromodiphenyl ether component present in c-OctaBDE products are considered, a possible risk of secondary poisoning via the earthworm route is indicated European Communities, 2003a.
Nevertheless, other brominated diphenyl ethers present in commercial octabromodiphenyl ether have been found to have higher bioconcentration factors, for example, 11,700- 17,700 for pentabromodiphenyl ethers(Ref. 3) and1,000- 5,600 for hexabromodiphenyl ethers(Ref. 3);
