The mix of vehicles in the Mission's fleet is suitable for the requirements; the vehicles were allocated to the various entities in line with the requirements; and fleet assets were adequately maintained, safeguarded and insured.
In addition, the mission has decreased requirements for official travel($26,400) since fewer trips are planned, for travel and training, facilities and infrastructure($93,700) owing to fewer acquisitions and lower maintenance and rental costs, for ground transportation($79,100) as a result of the reduction of the mission's fleet by five vehicles, and for communications($162,700) owing to the use of a fibre-optic link in lieu of incurring higher costs for transponder charges.
The proposed configuration of the Mission's fleet of 77 aircraft(29 fixed-wing and 48 helicopters) takes into account logistical support requirements arising from the deployment of additional military contingents to the North and South Kivus and the Ituri region.
In view of the absence of public transportation in the country, the Mission's fleet of light vehicles is used for the movement of personnel in Kinshasa and in areas of their deployment in the interior of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as for patrolling by military observers.
