Second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development.
At its fifty-sixth session,the General Assembly held the second high-level dialogue on 20 and 21 September 2001.

The President: We next turn to the draft decision entitled“Note by the Secretary-General on the themes for the second high-level dialogue on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership”.
My delegation is pleased that this second high-level dialogue is being held and we are also pleased with the judicious selection of the items included on our agenda, which are at the core of the concerns of the international community.
The main objective of the workshop was to identify gaps in the availability of data on international migrants andto identify practical ways to close them before the General Assembly of the United Nations holds its second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development in 2013.
In 2013, the General Assembly will hold a second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development that will take stock of the achievements of the Global Forum process, including advances in migration data.
As part of the follow-up to the first High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, held in September 2006, the General Assembly,in its resolution 63/225 of 19 December 2008, decided to convene a second High-level Dialogue during its sixty-eighth session in 2013.
We are gathered here today for the second High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development to assess the status of implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and to discuss future action to ensure that it is fully implemented.
It remained strongly committed to the work of the Global Forum on Migration and Development and looked forward to both the informal thematic debate on international migration and development,to be held in 2011, and the second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development to take place in 2013.
The Bahamas will continue to participate constructively in the process leading to the second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, to be held by the General Assembly in 2013, with a view to addressing these and other related issues.
The second high-level dialogue on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership had emphasized the role of information and communication technologies in the promotion of economic and social development.
Mr. Sharma(India) associated his delegation with the statement made by the Chairman of the Group of 77. The Committee should build upon the spirit of constructive engagement that had permeated the annual dialogue between the Economic and Social Council andthe Bretton Woods institutions and the second high-level dialogue on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership.
The Bureau noted that in 2013,the General Assembly would hold a second high-level dialogue on international migration and development and concluded that focusing on that issue in 2012 would make a valuable and timely contribution to the preparations for that event.
The second High-level Dialogue, which brings us here today, provides us with the opportunity to carefully review compliance with the Millennium Development Goals and to identify areas in which the international community needs to focus its efforts to achieve the results planned for 2015.
Mr. Civili(Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination andInter-Agency Affairs) introduced the note by the Secretary-General on themes for the second high-level dialogue on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership(A/54/328) and the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the Declaration on International Economic Cooperation and of the International Development Strategy for the Fourth United Nations Development Decade(A/54/389), two reports which were closely related.
He hoped that the second high-level dialogue on strengthening international economic cooperation for development through partnership(General Assembly resolution 54/213, para. 2) would address the problems of economic globalization, taking into account the plurality and specificity of sovereign nations.
Referring to international migration,especially the second High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, he said that it was important to establish global policies and specific medium- and long-term measures as part of an overall development strategy aimed at poverty reduction.
