State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material.
IAEA was working directly with Member States to improve the physical protection of nuclear materials and to improve State systems of accounting and control.

Activities in the safeguards programme that support nuclear security focus on effective State systems of accounting for the control of nuclear material.
These included three international courses on State Systems of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Material(SSACs); a regional training course on IAEA safeguards; three workshops on familiarization with Agency safeguards; and two workshops on nuclear material accountancy and reporting.
IAEA conducts a number of training courses and workshops in the following areas:(a) physical protection of nuclear material;(b) prevention of nuclear smuggling;and(c) state systems of accounting and control.
The Initiative also stresses the importance of providing assistance in establishing and maintaining State systems of accounting for and controlling nuclear material, as a key to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of IAEA safeguards.
Within the framework of the programme, the Russian Federation regularly sponsors international training courses for IAEA inspectors on non-destructive methods of analysis and State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear materials.
Engagement topics include Model Additional Protocol implementation, State Systems of Accounting for and Control of nuclear material, safeguards regulations, nondestructive and destructive assay, quality assurance and quality control and information management systems and processes.
The Agency conducts a number of training courses and workshops dealing with three general areas: physical protection of nuclear material,prevention of nuclear smuggling, and State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material.
Mongolia participated in the following two IAEA training courses:( i) an international training course on implementing State systems of accounting for, and control of, nuclear material for States with small quantities protocols, held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States, from 17 to 21 October 2011; and( ii) a regional training course, held in Tokai, Japan,from 18 to 29 October 2010, on State systems of accounting for, and control of, nuclear material for countries from the Far East, South-East Asia and the Pacific.
The International Atomic Energy Agency indicated that it conducts a number of training courses and workshops that fit into three general areas: physical protection of nuclear material,prevention of nuclear smuggling and state systems of accounting and control.
The United States has engaged more than 40 countries to improve safeguards infrastructure, to include best practices and training workshops on implementation of the Additional Protocol,strengthening State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material, quality management, non-destructive assay safeguards equipment and"training the trainer.
Accordingly, the Department of Energy and IAEA, with State Department funding support, have jointly been presenting, in alternating years, both an International Training Course on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials and Facilities andan International Training Course on State Systems of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Materials.
Further, as effective national accounting and protection is the basic prerequisite for preventing nuclear material from falling into unauthorized hands,the Agency is conducting training courses in the implementation of State systems of accounting and control of nuclear material and in physical protection methods and technology.
IAEA had organized 14 national and 16 regional training courses focusing on the physical protection of nuclear material in use, storage and transport and associated facilities,including State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material.
The Conference encourages IAEA to continue to assist the States parties in strengthening their national regulatory controls of nuclear material,including the establishment and maintenance of State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material.
In that particular field, the Agency conducted a number of training courses and workshops that fitted into three general areas: physical protection of nuclear material;prevention of nuclear smuggling; and State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material.
The Conference welcomes the efforts of IAEA to assist the States parties in strengthening their national regulatory controls of nuclear material,including the establishment and maintenance of State systems of accounting for and control of nuclear material.
