The work is in progress, and we hope that the approach described abovewill be common to a number of other coordination compounds as additives, complexes with different biometals as central atoms and other polydentate organic ligands, structural analogs of compounds occurring in vivo.
In this series of investigations,we aimed our efforts at synthesizing novel coordination compounds of platinum metals with a number of physiologically active molecules-ligands and studying their physicochemical properties and structure to find out whether they can be used in medicine.
The above properties of some complexes aroused our interest in the development of synthesis methodsand in the investigation of the physicochemical and biochemical properties of new coordination compounds of nobel metals, which can contribute to the development of understanding of the interrelation between the structure and bioactivity of compounds for possible, in prospect, goal-directed synthesis of new compounds with predictable properties.
Based on detailed studies of luminescent properties, it has been proved that rhenium(I)carbonyls coordination compounds can serve as biological markers and labels for fluorescence cell imaging, including for the diagnosis of oncological diseases and for tracking the distribution of pharmaceuticals in a living organism.
The Faculty is proud of its alumni andrenowned scientific schools of crystal chemistry of the intermetallic and coordination compounds, macromolecular chemistry, organic synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, searching for new analytical forms and development of modern methods of analysis that have made a significant contribution to fundamental science and practical application of its achievements.
It has beenproved that the effect of the nature of ligand on the formation of coordination compound is due to the different spatial arrangement of the nucleophilis donor centers of the fuctional groups of ligand and to the presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond in it.
