The case which was submitted by the so-called alternative synod contested the unity of the church.
The Euro deputies supported the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in the controversy with the alternative synod.
The issue with the alternative synod was resolved in 1998 on the Ecumenical Council which restored the sacred orders of the alternative group.
In October last year a MonitoringGroup of the Commission visited Bulgaria and held talks with the Alternative Synod of Inokentiy.

Patriarch Maxim thanked personally yesterday to the Euro deputy and archon Slavi Binev for his firm stance to the Committee on Petitions of the European Parliament,thanks to which the Committee refused on Tuesday to consider the appeal of the so-called Alternative Synod against Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
