This rapid growth is pushing electricity towards a 20 percent share in total final consumption of energy.
As a result, Cyprus andMalta have a gross final consumption of energy in national air transport which is disproportionally high, i.e.
The draft legislation states that the share of biofuels in this effort should be no more than 7% of final consumption of energy in road and rail transport.
Gross final consumption of energy' means gross final consumption of energy as defined in point(4)of Article 2 of Directive(EU) 2018/2001;
Final consumption of energy from renewable sources in the transport sector shall be calculated as the sum of all biofuels, biomass fuels and renewable liquid and gaseous transport fuels of non-biological origin consumed in the transport sector.
The binding 2020 national target of energy from renewable sources in its gross final consumption of energy set out in Annex I to Directive(EU) 2018/2001;
Gross final consumption of energy from renewable sources and share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption and by sector(electricity, heating and cooling, transport) and by technology.
Consequently, in that period the share of energy from renewable sources in each Member State's gross final consumption of energy should not be lower than its baseline share.
The calculation of the final consumption of energy from renewable sources in transport is moved to Article 7 to make it consistent with the calculation of the final consumption of energy from renewable sources in electricity and heating and cooling.
From 1 January 2021, the share of energy from renewable sources in each Member State's gross final consumption of energy shall not be lower than the baseline share shown in the table below.
Executive 08 summary IThe‘Renewable Energy Directive'(RED)requires each Member State to ensure that by 2020 the share of energy from renewable sources used in all forms of transport is at least 10% of the final consumption of energy in transport.
Each Member State shall ensure that the share of energy from renewable sources in petrol in 2020 is at least 7.5% of the final consumption of energy in petrol in that Member State.
In 2013, the share of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy reached 15.0% in the European Union(EU), compared with 8.3% in 2004, the first year for which the data is available.
Each Member State must ensure that the share of energy from renewable sources in all forms of transport in 2020 is at least 10% of the final consumption of energy in transport in that Member State.
In its contribution for its share of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy in 2030 and the last year of the period covered for the subsequent national plans, pursuant to point(a)(2) of Article 4, each Member State shall take into account all of the following.
Member States need to ensure that the individual share of energy from renewable sources in all forms of transport in 2030 is at least 12% of the final consumption of energy in transport in that Member State.
From 1 January 2021 onwards, the share of energy from renewable sources in each Member State's gross final consumption of energy shall not be lower than a baseline share that is equal to its mandatory national overall target for the share of energy from renewable sources in 2020 set out in Article 3(4) of Directive(EU) 2018/2001.
Each Member State shall ensure that the share of electricity from renewable energy sources used in all forms of transport is at least 2% of the final consumption of energy in transport in that Member State by 2020.
From 1 January 2021 onwards, the share of energy from renewable sources in each Member State's gross final consumption of energy shall not be lower than that shown in the third column of the table in part A of Annex I.
The European Parliament endorsed committee proposals for binding EU-level targets of an 35% improvement in energy efficiency,a minimum 35% share of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy, and a 12% share of energy….
Therefore, they have exemptions with regard to the amounts by which they exceed the EU's average gross final consumption of energy in aviation in 2005 as assessed by Eurostat, i.e. 4.12%.
(d) for the calculation of biofuels in the numerator, the share of energy from biofuels produced from cereal and other starch-rich crops, sugars and oil crops andother energy crops grown on land shall be no more than 6% of the final consumption of energy in transport in the Member States in 2020;
It sets Ö a binding Õ mandatory national ð Union ï targets for the overall share of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy ð in 2030 ï and for the share of energy from renewable sources in transport.
(d) for the calculation of biofuels in the numerator, the share of energy from biofuels produced from cereal and other starch rich crops, sugars, and oil and other energy crops grown on land shall be no more than 5%,the estimated share at the end of 2011, 6% of the final consumption of energy in transport in 2020.
The proposed directive sets mandatory national targets for the overall share of energy from renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy and for the share of energy from renewable sources in transport.
The Final Report also adds that“[e]ach Member State shall ensure that the share of energy from renewable sources in all forms of transport in 2030 is at least 12% of the final consumption of energy in transport in that Member State”.
For Cyprus and Malta the amount of energy consumed in aviation shall,as a proportion of those Member States' gross final consumption of energy, be considered to be no more than 4,12%.
(d) for the calculation of biofuels in the numerator, the share of energy from biofuels produced from cereal and other starch-rich crops, sugars andoil crops shall be no more than 7% of the final consumption of energy in transport in the Member States in 2020;
