As I believe that it is essential to take a European approach to the prevention of such disasters,I endorse the report by my fellow Member, Mr Ferreira.
I was able to support Mr Ferreira's report.
I would like to congratulate Mr Ferreira on his report on Community financial measures for the implementation of the common fisheries policy and in the area of the Law of the Sea.
I voted in favour of Mr Ferreira's report.
I therefore lent my full support to the report by Mr Ferreira.
I therefore congratulate the three other rapporteurs, butI will only comment on Mr Ferreira's report.
I would like to thank the rapporteur, Mr Ferreira, for his work, and the Committee on Fisheries as a whole.
Member of the Commission.- Mr President, I wish to thank Parliament for the opportunity to exchange views on disaster prevention, and Mr Ferreira in particular for his continued interest in the subject.
The report by Mr Ferreira on Community financial measures before us today deals with key issues as far as the reform of fisheries policy is concerned.
First of all, I would like to congratulate the rapporteur, Mr Ferreira, for drafting this report, for which I voted in favour.
Turning now to the second report on Community financial measures for the implementation of the common fisheries policy,I would also like to thank the Fisheries Committee and the rapporteur, Mr Ferreira, for their work on this proposal.
Others- and I do not think this position is a good one at all, Mr Ferreira- have expressed the opinion that there is hypocrisy here and that the people of Cuba should be allowed the freedom to make their own political decisions.
The compromise amendment is the result of the good work carried out by Mr Ferreira, who has clearly understood these concerns.
However, the rapporteur, the Member from the Portuguese Communist Party(PCP), Mr Ferreira, has considered it appropriate to propose certain additional amendments, which although quite specific, could contribute to an improved alignment of this legislation with recent changes in the sector and with its future prospects.
This is not allthat we can do, of course, so I very much welcome the proposal by Mr Ferreira to enhance our research efforts on aquaculture.
The report by Mr Ferreira on behalf of the Committee on Fisheries on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulation(EC) No 861/2006 of 22 May 2006 establishing Community financial measures for the implementation of the common fisheries policy and in the area of the Law of the Sea.
I would like to congratulate my colleague in the Confederal Group of the European United Left- Nordic Green Left, Mr Ferreira(PCP), on his report, which was adopted today by a very large majority in the European Parliament.
Before talking about the reports by Mr Ferreira and Mrs Fraga Estévez, I should like to express my support for the report by Mr Capoulas Santos, which recommends adopting the Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and financial contribution provided for in the Partnership Agreement with the Union of the Comoros, and reminds us of the need for Parliament to participate actively in this process.
I therefore call for your support in adopting a proposal that I andmy colleagues Mr Capoulas Santos and Mr Ferreira have tabled in the Chamber, which seeks to do no more than ensure that what was law until 1 October 2010 remains so until 2013.
The European Commission must therefore undertake to set up a European agricultural public insurance scheme to better address the risk and income instability of farmers related to natural and man-made disasters,as indicated in paragraph 37 of Mr Ferreira's proposal, of which I have just voted in favour.
This report shows the contribution that the GUE/NGL Group can nevertheless make to debates in the European Parliament, andI know that we can count on Mr Ferreira to continue this fight for sustainable fisheries, giving priority to small-scale fishermen over industrial groups in the sector.
I repeat, Mr Speroni, Mrs Ferreira, the action was immediate.
I also want to thank my shadow, Mr Hasse Ferreira, for working with me, and he has also contributed extensively.
Mrs Ferreira and Mr Lamberts made the point that the stress tests were inconsistent.I have said what I think about the shortcomings of the previous tests.
At this point I must warmly acknowledge Mrs Wortmann-Kool,Mrs Goulard, Mr Haglund, Mrs Ferreira and Mrs Ford, who have been rapporteurs with me throughout this economic governance package.
As regards the remarks made by Mrs Ferreira and Mr Agnoletto, I would point out on behalf of the Commission that the European Trade Union Confederation was consulted, and chemical workers in particular have declared themselves in favour of keeping the exemption.
