This is a tremendous change that Mrs Svensson, and possibly others too, will, unfortunately, be voting against.
My group grants the freedom to decide on this matter, and therefore, Mrs Svensson, we would like a split vote.
Mr President, my colleague, Mrs Svensson, will speak on the subject of the Swedish Presidency.
This is unquestionably one of the most important issues in modern society andin the modern age and I agree with Mrs Svensson that there is an essential need to coordinate activities at all levels.

Mr Albrecht, Mr Busuttil, Mrs  Sippel,Mrs  Sargentini, Mrs  Svensson, Mr Paška, Mr De Rossa and several others have raised this issue.
Last spring, Mrs Svensson and others voted down a proposal requiring a judicial review to be carried out if someone was to be excluded.
We welcome the adoption of this report by the Member from our group, Mrs Svensson, who is also Chair of Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.

Mrs Svensson, thank you very much for your question, because you know that one of the key, central and priority issues for the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union is gender equality.

I fully support Mrs Svensson's work on the problem of gender equality, and I agree that the issues she has raised have a significant influence on the process of achieving equal rights for women and men.
(FR) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen,I welcome the report by our Chair, Mrs Svensson, which highlights the need to view all forms of violence as crimes amenable to criminal law.
I welcome your report, Mrs Svensson, and I welcome this important initiative; it provides the possibility to cooperate, exchange views and create synergies between what the Commission is doing and what the European Parliament is doing in order to define future action in this area.
I heard my fellow Member on the left here today, Mrs Svensson, ask for an amendment to allow the EU to directly influence Member States' approach to the legal process.
I would like to congratulate Mrs Svensson on her report, which raises an extremely important and sensitive issue for society, namely, violence against women.
To date the potential of neither the one northe other has been fully exploited and I agree with Mrs Svensson that it should be applied as it is being applied now, not only in the five Directorates General and committees, but also in the other Directorates General and that is what we are doing with the decision which we are preparing.
The next item is the report by Mrs Svensson, on behalf of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, on the proposal for a new EU policy framework to fight violence against women.
I agree with my friend and colleague Mrs Svensson when she states that women are victims of gender-based violence; however we must not view women, including those who are victims of this kind of violence, simply as victims.
