ORaH as a single-person party.
The political decline of ORaH.
N ORAH:"Or what if sometimes…" PORTER:… sometimes.
The political context and the rise of ORaH.
ORaH faced its first political test at the European Parliamentary elections of 25 May 2014.
They are not radical ordeeply specialised like the green“ORaH” for example.
The Pod Orah restaurant serves national dishes and features a summer garden in the shade of a walnut tree.
Probably not all of you know that Balkans have 1 elected MEP from Croatia ORaH- Mr. Davor Skrlec.
This decision confirmed the view of ORaH as an SDP satellite that would enter the elections in coalition with the SDP.
A very strong woman failed to enter Parliament- Mirela Holy, leader of the green party“ORaH”.
From its founding to the defeat in the parliamentary elections, OraH was perceived as Mirela Holy's party.
ORaH refused to take sides, as the protest centred on ideological issues rather than any real war veterans' problems.
These factors were behind the insufficient direct contact with the citizens, which meant that ORaH started to be seen as a‘virtual party'.
The former third political power ORaH, which had real chances at the presidential elections, but blew them, is already at the political bottom.
It is important to point out that turnout atthese elections was 25%, the third lowest in the EU, while ORaH won 9.42%, or 80,000 votes.
The other determining factor of the polarisation that directly harmed ORaH was media speculation regarding possible coalitions in the following parliamentary elections.
This can be seen in various initiatives such as stopping oil drilling in the Adriatic Sea, a campaign in which ORaH participated alongside civil society.
ORaH was increasingly frequently mentioned in the context of a“likely” coalition with the SDP, even though Mirela Holy constantly and firmly rejected such an option.
At exactly this time last year, the star on the political sky was the green party ORaH of former minister in the Zoran Milanović government Mirela Holy.
Latest polls, however show a marked decline in support for the ultra-left“Live Wall” and the other centre-left,actually green at its core party ORAH in favour of SDP.
Live Wall” and ORaH are in the left part of the spectrum, while there are several parties in the centre and it is yet to be decided whether they will back the HDZ-led coalition and whether it will have them.
According to the polling agency, HDZ have not suffered a drop, rather SDP have accumulated votes from the other leftist parties, namely“Live Wall” and ORAH, who have 7.4% and 5.1% respectively.
Although both Most and ORaH advocated similar reforms, the key difference between the two parties lay in better party infrastructure, clear messages to the citizens and better timed growth of popularity.
The reason for this political miscalculation lay in the popularity, at the time, of Ivo Josipović andthe conviction that after his likely victory, ORaH would stake a claim to being the second political option, with a 20% popularity rating.
ORaH of Mirela Holy is against the concession with the HDZ argument that if someone finds it worthwhile to take the motorway under concession, then why couldn't the state, through re-organisation, achieve the same effect, she asks.
In the same time, the biggest opposition party- Croatian Democratic Union(HDZ) is now comfortably leading in the polls, while the Social Democrats have been outpaced by one of the newest parties on the Croatian political scene- ORaH(For Croatia's Sustainable Development) of Mirela Holy, former minister of environment in Zoran Milanovic's government.
