Official statistics in the Republic of Serbia The harmonisation of official statistics with international statistical standards, classifications and methodologies, as well as the adoption of good statistical practice of other countries are an integral part of intensive activities of the Republic of Serbia within the process of accession to the European Union, i.e. process of stabilisation and access, and process of accession negotiations.
The goal was to create a unique information platform which will include all of the produced indicators and which will, at the same time, be flexible enough as to support the development andcoverage of new indicators that are defined in the international statistical system or that come out of the development and monitoring of the implementation of the national strategic documents.
Owing to the coordination of responsible producers of official statistics andactive involvement in the international statistical cooperation the published official statistical results meet the needs of decision-makers, researchers and other users, and serve as the basis for the monitoring and directing of policies in economic and social fields as well as policies concerning the process of accession of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union.
System of official statistics of the Republic of Serbia, by strengthening expert and infrastructural capacities and adopting andapplying the best statistical practices should reach the high level of harmonization with international statistical standards, involving the high level of quality of the published statistical data and gained trust of respondents and users.“.
The coordinated activities of authorized producers of official statistics andtheir active participation in international statistical cooperation shall ensure that published official statistics satisfies the needs of decision makers, researchers and other users, thus serving as the basis for monitoring and directing policies in the area of economy and society, as well as the policies concerning the process of accessing of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union.
Vision and values of official statistics By building professional and infrastructure capacities, adopting and applying the best statistical practices,the official statistics system of the Republic of Serbia should reach a high level of harmonisation with international statistical standards, high level of quality of published data and acquire confidence of data providers and users.
In 1881, a separate Law on the organization of official statistics was adopted; the Statistical Office of Serbia was established in 1945. The Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina shall, by strengthening of its professional and infrastructure capacities and by adopting andapplying the best statistical practice, achieve full alignment to the international statistical standards and the principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice, while respecting fundamental values such as expertise and professionalism, independence, impartiality and openness.
European Integrations and International Cooperation The process of European integrations of the Republic of Serbia and activities related to development of official statistics aim at providing complete harmonization with European statistical system(ESS) in the forthcoming period, meaning standards, classifications and methodologies harmonization, in order to obtain comparable indicators and involve all responsible producers of official statistics into the process of international statistical cooperation, coordinated by Eurostat.
By ensuring a single access to the subject information, we enabled all our users to have a simultaneous access to the updated data and contributed to the enhanced data transparency.The establishment of the e-GDDS and the NSDP represents yet another confirmation of commitment of the SORS to implement international statistical standards, and another step forward in deepening and improving partner relationship between the SORS and the IMF.
