In Pannonian saline habitats only a few species that are exclusive representatives of these habitats are present. These true bugs are usually related to feeding on the characteristic plants(halophytes), and cannot be found in the other habitat types.

When selecting, we chose those locations for which there were no earlier findings on true bugs,despite the fact that these areas are known as important saline habitats with well known vegetation features.
The idea on true bug study came from the curiosity to get to know the true bug fauna of saline habitats in Vojvodina, to answer what determines the composition of their communities and are there species that inhabit exclusively saline habitats in Serbia?
Fieldwork was conducted from April to October, 2015 on five chosen locations, among which some are protected(Special Nature Reserves“Slano Kopovo” and“Selevenjske pustare”) andunprotected areas(saline habitats in vicinity of Gakovo, Srpski Miletić and Žabalj).
Like the last time, our project on the research and popularisation of saline habitats and true bugs in Banat was supported by the Rufford Foundation.
In cooperation with our team and financial support of the Wikimedia Serbia,colleagues from the SRSBES“Josif Pančić” successfully ended a project in 2017 that was aiming to inform the general public about the natural values of saline habitats and the importance of their conservation.
Aiming to inform the public about the project,we prepared a leaflet which contains basic information on the importance of true bugs and their saline habitats in Vojvodina, on human activities which endanger them and proposals for their conservation.
In cooperation with dr Dragan Vajgand we published a popular science article about the importance of the biodiversity of saline habitats in the agricultural online bulletin“Za našu zemlju” No. 56.
