This began the Nirmala tradition.[1][11] After they returned to Anandpur, they were honoured by the title Nirmala(Sanskrit for"pure" or"unsullied").[12] The Nirmalas took the Amrit initiation into the Khalsa panth.[13].

In 1888, Sarkar married Nirmala, daughter of Girishchandra Mazumdar of Barisal, a scholar and a Brahmo missionary, and became a member of the Brahmo Samaj. The couple went on to have six children, five daughters and one son.[1].

Many musicians like M.S. Subbulakshmi and Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer have had good association with him and have appreciated his music.[9].

The Nirmala Panchaati akhara at Kankhal, established with grants from the rulers of Phulkian states, has the highest status among all Nirmala chapters.[1] Other major Nirmala centres are located at Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain, Trimbak, Kurukshetra and Patna.

Kapila Venu(born 1983)[1] is a practitioner of Kutiyattam and a disciple of the Kutiyattam maestro Guru Ammannur Madhava Chakyar. She is[when?] being mentored by Kutiyattam exponent and actor trainer Gopalan Nair Venu, also known as G Venu, who is also her father. She has also trained under Usha Nangiar and Kitangur C N Rama Chakyar in Kutiyattam, Nirmala Paniker, her mother, in Mohiniyattam and studied under the guidance of Japanese Farmer/Dancer Min Tanaka in Japan.

The project was supported by Goa University and Nirmala Institute of Education. Late Madhavi Sardesai, then a professor and Head of Department of Konkani at the Goa University, played an important role to launch the project. Prakash Parienkar, the current head of department of Konkani department of Goa University had said at that time:[7].

At the insistence of her husband, she started her riyaz once again, despite having two young children and an ailing mother-in-law. She practised with tabla maestro Pandit Chatur Lal, which continued for the following 16 years, and soon singing on radio as well. Meanwhile, Nirmala Joshi, who was secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi at the time, invited her to teach classical music at her music school, Sangeet Bharati at Mandi House in Delhi.

On 26 March, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced₹170,000 crore(US$24 billion) stimulus package to help those affected by the lockdown.[14] The package was aimed to provide food security measures for poor households through direct cash transfers, free cereals and cooking gas for three months.[15] It also provided insurance cover for medical personnel.[14].

On his 80th birthday in December 2005, his friends, peers, family and fans organised a literary and cultural event in New Delhi. To mark the occasion, a volume titled Shrilal Shukla- Jeevan Hi Jeevan was issued about him which contains the writings of eminent literary personalities such as Dr. Naamvar Singh, Rajendra Yadav, Ashok Bajpai, Doodhnath Singh, Nirmala Jain, Leeladhar Jagudi, Gillian Wright, Kunwar Narayan and Raghuvir Sahay among others. His friends, family and fans also contributed to the book.

However, compared to the Udasis, the Nirmalas have shared a closer relationship the mainstream Khalsa Sikhs. Many prominent Nirmala sants preached mainstream Sikhism in Punjab, and Nirmala akharas have played an important role in training Sikhs. But after the Akali movement, the Khalsa attempts to create a Sikh identity completely distinct from Hindus made the Khalsa-Nirmala relationship fragile.

Nirmala(Punjabi: ਨਿਰਮਲੇ, lit."those without blemish") is a Sikh tradition of ascetics.[1] According to the traditional beliefs, the Nirmala Sikh tradition was founded by Guru Gobind Singh in late 17th century when he sent five Sikhs to Varanasi to learn Sanskrit and Hindu religious texts.[2][3] This belief, according to W. H. McLeod, is of doubtful historicity because they are"scarcely mentioned" in Sikh literature before the 19th-century.
