The district was divided into six taluks:.
Coondapoor sub-division: Coondapoor and Udupi taluks Mangalore sub-division: Mangalore, and the Amindivi islands Puttur sub-division: Uppinangady and Kasaragod taluks.
The state had 4 districts which were divided into 36 taluks.[3].
Under State Reorganisation Act of 1956, the four southern taluks of Travancore, namely Thovalai, Agasteeswaram, Kalkulam and Vilavancode and a part of the Chencotta Taluk was merged with Madras State.
Madurantakam division is a revenue division in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, India.It comprises the taluks of Cheyyur and Madurantakam.
Chitapur Taluk has borders only with other Taluks of Gulbarga district. It borders Gulbarga taluk to the north-west, Chincholi Taluk district to the north, Sedam taluk to the east, Yadgir Taluk to the south-east, Shahpur Taluk to the south and Jevargi Taluk to the west.
It submitted its report on August 10, 1955. Based on this report, Devikulam-Peermedu and Neyyattinkara Taluks were merged with Kerala state.[8].
The campaign was successful: Agastheeswaram, Kalkulam, Thovalai,Vilavancode and Shenkottai taluks were merged with Madras as per the States Reorganisation Act, 1956.[1] The first four were combined to form the present-day Kanyakumari district, while Shenkottai was merged with the Tirunelveli district.
Cheyyar division is a revenue division in the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, India.It comprises the taluks of Aarani, Cheyyar and Vandavasi.

During the election propaganda compaign, clashes occurred between the majority Nadar community and the dominant Malayali Nair community at various places in Kalkulam-Vilavancode Taluks. Malayali police force suppressed the agitating Tamilians. On February 1948 police opened fire and two Tamilians were killed.
On 1 November 1956, the state of Kerala was formed by the States Reorganisation Act,which merged the Malabar District with Travancore-Cochin apart from the four southern taluks, which were merged with Tamil Nadu, and the Kasaragod taluk of South Kanara District.
