When the original image containingcharacters"A" and"B" is scanned by a scanner or the like, these character patterns are read, from the left to right of each scanning line, in units of pixels.
If one of these characters appears, then the word is regarded as a pattern, and replaced with an alphabetically sorted list of pathnames matching the pattern.
Since the introduction of Unicode,unless the"//a" modifier is in effect, these character classes match more than just a few characters in the ASCII range.
