Then David made this song of grief for Saul and Jonathan, his son.
And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son.
And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son. They also gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
And Saul said to Jonathan, his son,“Why has the son of Jesse not arrived to eat, neither yesterday, nor today?”?
David said to the young man who told him,"How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?
Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people who were present with them, stayed in Geba of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.
And David said unto the young man that told him,How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?
Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people who were present with them, stayed in Geba of Benjamin; but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.
He answered,"The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead;and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
And Saul, with Jonathan his son and the people who were with them, was waiting in Geba in the land of Benjamin: but the tents of the Philistines were in Michmash.
David said to him,"How did it go? Please tell me." He answered,"The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead;and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted much in David.
And when the second day after the new moon was come, David's place appeared empty again. AndSaul said to Jonathan his son: Why cometh not the son of Isai to meat neither yesterday nor to day?
And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead;and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
They mourned, and wept, andfasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Yahweh, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

So David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa;
And they buried[them] with the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulchre of Kish his father; and they did all that the king had commanded. And afterwards God was propitious to the land.
He was very protective of his son, Jonathan.
Then David mourned a lamentation over Saul and over his son Jonathan, in this way.
And David said to the youth who was reporting to him,“How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan have died?”?
And David said to the young man who gave him the news,Why are you certain that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?
So on the day of the fight at Michmash, not a sword or a spear was to be seen in the hands of any of the people with Saul and Jonathan: only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
