Question No 99 by Mr Vandemeulebroucke Subject: Languages used in the labelling of foodstuffs.
On the labelling of foodstuffs containing quinine, and of foodstuffs containing caffeine.
This Article shall be without prejudice to the other requirements of Community law concerning the labelling of foodstuffs.
The labelling of foodstuffs treated with ionising radiation shall be governed by the following provisions.
The prime consideration for any rules on the labelling of foodstuffs should be the need to inform and protect the consumer.

Given the successive food crises we have experienced,the 25% rule on the labelling of foodstuffs should be abolished and consumers suffering from allergies should be given full information on the foodstuffs they buy.
This Directive shall not affect the provisions of national laws which, in the absence of Community provisions,impose less stringent requirements for the labelling of foodstuffs presented in fancy packaging such as figurines or souvenirs.
