Brazilians might either perform epenthesis or delete one of them.
The strategy called others includes strategies not described above which occur in a single group and are less frequent, for example, epenthesis.
This means, for example, occasional epenthesis even if the following word starts in a vowel, as in their native language not really.
Regarding the resources of syllable structure, the metathesis atypical phonological development and the epenthesis typical phonological development occurred in only 1% of the samples.
The author observed that metathesis and epenthesis occur more often in words whose first consonant is coronal, what consists of a phonemes sequence with the same feature, what seems to make the CCV production even more complex.
According to Table 4, in the cases of phonological disorders, the repair strategies of C omission, the syllable omission and the epenthesis occurred more frequently.
It is also emphasized that the restrict number of occurrences of the variables epenthesis and some others and the not occurrence of metathesis in the studied corpus made the statistical analysis involving those strategies impracticable.
It does not really matter if a number of language scholars are unware of what hendiadys is; in fact, very few will probably know what epenthesis stands for- let alone anaptyxis.
For and, prosodic words are formed by composition., regarding the diminutive, emphasizes the role of/z/ as epenthesis, a case of surface structure, constituting the formation of the diminutive,-inho or-zinho, a derivational process from-inho.
According to the author's description, the most commonly used repair strategies refer to semi-vocalization,substitution, epenthesis, besides the vowel lengthening.
The objective of this research is, then,to identify the incidence frequency of the insertion of vowel epenthesis at onset position of words in english that begin with one of the following clusters/sp/,/st/,/sk/,/sl/,/sm/, and/sn/ by brazilian learners of english so called foreign language.
Vowels/o, a/ are always in the input of the base word while vowel/e/ is found neither in words ending in liquids nor in acronyms, but it emerges in both pluralization and lexicalized loans; in these cases,it is recognized as epenthesis.
It should be noted, especially, that this dissertation is meant to discuss words with nominal bases that have consonantal epenthesis¿a mechanism used to solve structural problems of syllabic character.
Regarding the acquisition of syllable structures, the theoretical perspective from the natural phonology recognizes the following repair strategies: cluster reduction, omission of non-stressed syllable, omission of final fricative, omission of final liquid, omission of liquid between vowels, omission of initial liquid, metathesis and epenthesis.
Although they are not so frequent, the resources alteration of the obstruent feature, alteration of the liquid feature, metathesis and epenthesis were also used in a significant way. They are important because they indicate the way children deal with the complex structure CCV.
The investigated dependent variable included the following variants, without segmental precision: correct production of the blocked syllable porta door, pojta, polta; syllable omission porta-['ta],coda omission porta-['pta], epenthesis porta-[p'rota], metathesis porta-['prta] and coalescence calça pants-'ksa.
This work aims to answerthe following guiding questions: what is the incidence frequency of the onset vowel epenthesis in sc cluster in english by brazilian learners of english so called foreign language?; what is the role of the sonority of the second consonant of the cluster and the preceding phonological contex.
It shows, through empirical data of production and perception of brazilian and european portuguese native speakers, that in word-mid contexts of heterosyllabic consonant clusters, which allow for the emergence of epenthesis in portuguese(¿p. n¿¿apneia,¿t. n¿¿etnia,¿k. t¿¿cacto), the phenomenon of vowel epenthesis is variable.
For both groups, the considered variants for the dependent variable were: correct production casa house-['taza],['kaza], consonant omission amigo friend-[a'igo],syllable omission sapato shoe-['pato], epenthesis doze twelve-['dojzi], metathesis porta door-['potar], and the other ways of production, such as compensatory lengthening and idiosyncratic substitutions.
Although three vowels manifest themselves in theme vowel position,/ o, a, e/, vowels/ o, a/ are naturally in the input of most of the words in Portuguese. The occurrence of/ e/ is only noticed in limited cases, such as mole, vale, pele. They appear in all other cases in theme vowel position as epenthesis and as licensors of structures which are not allowed by the language, an explicit fact in syllabification.
The study also considers the possible existence of a voiceless epenthetic vowel, not commonly identified in the literature, which characterizes the original status of the study, for its instrumental treatment of epenthesis in portuguese, as a study that combines a traditional, structural description of epenthesis with an acoustic, articulatory and perceptive attention.
