Also in May 1994, a number of families returned to Cuarto Pueblo, where they were visited on 20 November 1994 by the Expert together with Mr. Arnaldo Ortíz, her current representative on the Repatriation Verification Agency.
In July 1995, the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Team exhumed thousands of parts of human bodiesbelonging to some 350 people in three trenches located in Cuarto Pueblo, Ixcán, which the Expert inspected last year in the course of her visit to that area.
During her meeting with the returnees in Cuarto Pueblo on 20 November 1994, the Expert ascertained the existence of skeletal remains buried following the massacre of the 1980s, when the population had been herded into the church, which was then set on fire.
Public attention has also been focused onthe exhumations carried out in clandestine cemeteries in Las Dos Erres, Petén, and Cuarto Pueblo, Quiché, as a result of efforts to cast light on the massacre of hundreds of inhabitants of these localities in 1982.
