In October 2009,a meeting was held at the Real Instituto Elcano(Madrid) with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Member of the Governing Board of the Elcano Royal Institute for International and Strategic Studies, of the Advisory Board of the Francisco de Vitoria Institute of the Carlos III University of Madrid, of the Honorary Committee of the Royal Institute for European Studies, Saragossa University, and of the Advisory Board of the International College, Spain.
In 2004 he was appointed as a member of the Advisory Council of the Elcano Royal Institute of International and Strategic Studies, located in Madrid.
Sheikh Sultan visited explorer Magellan and Elcano's section, which contain maps and geographical manuscripts developed during their expeditions, navigation tools and weapons used by naval fleets, and models of Spanish naval ships.
However, the voyage still retains its name, although some modern sources favor thename of the Magellan-Elcano expedition to include Juan Sebastian Elcano, the commander of Victoria, the only ship of the original five to return to Spain.
