In this connection,it should be noted that the document entitled“Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission” states that.
As in past years, the Commission is convened today for a brief session to deal with organizational matters related to its 1996 session, including the election of a new Bureau for 1996, the appointment of the chairmen of the subsidiary bodies of the Commission and its draft provisional agenda for the next substantive session,in accordance with its reform programme entitled“Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission” which was adopted in 1990.
Recalling in particular its resolution 45/62 B of 4 December 1990, in which it noted with satisfaction the adoption by consensus of a set of" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission", decision 52/492 of 8 September 1998 concerning the efficient functioning of the Disarmament Commission and resolution 61/98, which contains additional measures for improving the effectiveness of the methods of work of the Disarmament Commission.
In this connection, it should be noted that paragraphs 3 and 4 of section 3 ofdocument A/CN.10/137, entitled" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission" state.
Recalling in particular General Assembly resolution 45/62 B of 4 December 1990, in which it noted with satisfaction the adoption by consensus of a set of" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission", Assembly decision 52/492 of 8 September 1998 concerning the efficient functioning of the Commission and Assembly resolution 61/98, which contains additional measures for improving the effectiveness of the methods of work of the Commission.
During that session, the Commission considered questions related to the organization of work for its 1994substantive session in accordance with the adopted" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission"(A/CN.10/137) and in the light of General Assembly resolution 48/77 A of 16 December 1993.
Requests the Disarmament Commission to continue its work in accordance with its mandate, as set forth in paragraph 118 of the Final Document of the Tenth Special Session of the General Assembly, and with paragraph 3 of Assembly resolution 37/78 H of 9 December 1982, and to that end to make every effort to achieve specific recommendations on the items on its agenda,taking into account the adopted" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission";
(a) Considered questions related to the organization of work and substantive agenda items for its 2007substantive session in accordance with the adopted" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission"(A/CN.10/137) and in the light of General Assembly resolution 61/98;
Commends the Disarmament Commission for its adoption by consensus of a set of guidelines and recommendations for objective information on military matters, 2/ which were recommended to the General Assembly for consideration, pursuant to the adopted 'Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission '; 3/.
Commends the Disarmament Commission for its adoption by consensus of a set of guidelines and recommendations for regional approaches to disarmament within the context of global security, which were recommended to the General Assembly for consideration, pursuant to the adopted 'Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission '; A/CN.10/137.
At this juncture I would like to draw the attention of members of the Commission to the provision in the adopted“Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission” that reads.

At that meeting, the Commission considered questions relating to the organization of work and substantive agenda items for its 2013substantive session in accordance with the adopted" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission"(A/CN.10/137) and in the light of General Assembly resolution 67/71.

Organization of work The Chairman: As members may recall, in 1990 the Disarmament Commission adopted by consensus a text of the reform programme,entitled“Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission”(A/CN.10/137).

During that session, at its 268th plenary meeting(A/CN.10/PV.268), the Commission considered questions related to the organization of work and substantive agenda items for its 2006substantive session in accordance with the adopted" Ways and means to enhance the functioning of the Disarmament Commission"(A/CN.10/137) and in the light of General Assembly resolution 60/91.
