Mr. Osuga(Japan): I would like to make a statement on the agenda item" Global health and foreign policy" on behalf of the Government of Japan.
The Executive Board elected as President H. E. Mr. Oumar Daou, Permanent Representative of Mali to the United Nations; and as Vice-Presidents H. E. Ms. Ismat Jahan, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations; H. E. Mr. Léo Mérorès, Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations; H. E. Ms. Simona Miculescu, Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations;and Mr. Takeshi Osuga, Minister, Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations.
Mr. Osuga(Japan) said that his delegation welcomed the adoption of the draft resolution by consensus and looked forward to negotiating the modalities of the Conference in order to ensure a successful outcome.

Mr. Osuga(Japan) described the outcome of the Group of Eight Summit in July and the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development(TICAD IV) in May, as well as his Government ' s actions in the relevant areas.
Mr. Osuga(Japan)(spoke in French): Allow me to start by expressing my delegation ' s appreciation to the Secretary-General for his note transmitting the report entitled" Global health and foreign policies"(A/65/399) under agenda item 124.
Mr. Osuga(Japan) said that his delegation supported the Secretary-General ' s call in his report(A/64/322) to protect the poor through the sustainment of employment and livelihoods and targeted social spending, and his country intended to strengthen the Tokyo International Conference on African Development process as part of its redoubling of efforts related to the Millennium Development Goals.
