Very probably Raqqada.
Raqqada the Bardo Mahdiyya.
An architectural decoration found in situ,the piece was probably carved at Raqqada, re-using some old marble of Italian origin.
This chandelier was displayed from 1956 at the museum of the Great Mosque ofKairouan before its acquisition by the Museum of Islamic Art at Raqqada in 1986.
When the Museum of Islamic Art at Raqqada was opened this coin, among others, was chosen to create a coin room.
This chandelier belongs to a series of eight found in the Great Mosque of Kairouan,and which are dispersed today among four Tunisian museums(Raqqada, the Bardo, Mahdiyya and Monastir).
Since 1986 it hasbeen kept at the Museum of Islamic Art at Raqqada, where it will be displayed in the second section, which is currently under refurbishment(2005).
This piece was placed along with thousands of other fragments in the storerooms of the National Institute of the Patrimony of Kairouan.It was selected for display when the Museum of Islamic Art at Raqqada was extended.
