In June, two new tools were approved by theCommittee to facilitate the provision of information by States on steps they have taken to implement the sanctions measures.

I have the pleasure to write to you with reference to Security Council resolution 1373(2001), in paragraph 6 of which the MemberStates are called upon to report to the Committee on the steps they have taken to implement this resolution. Paragraph 6 of Security Council resolution 1390(2002)requests all States to report to the Committee the steps they have taken to implement the measures referred to in paragraph 2 of that resolution.
The resolution requires all States to cooperate in a wide range of areas, from suppressing the financing of terrorism to providing early warning, as well as cooperating in criminal investigations and exchanging information on possible terrorist acts,and to report on the steps they have taken to implement the resolution.
These tools can also be useful for the States of nationality andresidence that are encouraged to inform the Committee of the steps they have taken to implement the measures and with regard to notifications pursuant to paragraph 17 of resolution 1822(2008).
The Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations presents his compliments to the Secretary-General and has the honour to refer to paragraph 13 of Security Council resolution 1132(1997) of 8 October 1997,by which Member States were requested to report to the Secretary-General on the steps they have taken to implement paragraphs 5 and 6 of the resolution.

I have the honour to refer to Security Council resolution 1718(2006) on measures against the Democratic People ' s Republic of Korea in connection with its nuclear weapons tests, in which the Council requested allMember States to report to the Security Council on the steps they have taken to implement the measures imposed in paragraph 8 aimed at preventing the Democratic People ' s Republic of Korea from pursuing its nuclear weapons programme.
Contracting parties demonstratedprogress in meeting their obligations under these agreements by reporting on the steps they had taken to implement their provisions.

In paragraph 31 of its resolution 1929(2010) of 9 June 2010, the Security Council called upon all States to report to the Security Council,within 60 days of the date of adoption of the resolution, on the steps they had taken to implement paragraphs 7 to 19 and 21 to 24 of resolution 1929(2010).
When asked what steps they had taken to implement Article 4, most States replied that their standard recording practices were in place and were sufficient to meet the requirements of Protocol V. These claims may be true; however, they provide no information to the Conference of High Contracting Parties on which it may base its considerations of implementation.
