I simply want to say that, when the Committee on Industry, External Trade, Research and Energy received Mr Dary' s report, after a detailed examination of the problems facing the banana industry, we came to the conclusion in our committee that the solution proposed by Mr Dary met the absolutely fundamental conditions for its success.

We therefore congratulate Mr Dary and the members of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development who are attempting to restore a little order to the Commission proposal which we find simply unacceptable as it stands, because it is selling off Community interests for the benefit of American multinationals whose manufacturing standards are obviously not comparable with EU standards.

Ich möchte als Erstes dem Berichterstatter, Herrn Dary, für den Inhalt seines Berichts danken, da er zum zweiten Mal für die Aufrechterhaltung der Kontingentregelung bei der Bananeneinfuhr in der Europäischen Union zum Schutz der Gemeinschaftsproduktion eintritt und den automatischen Übergang zu einer Pauschalzollregelung nach Ablauf eines Gültigkeitszeitraums der reformierten GMO ablehnt, der auch nach unserer Meinung eine Dauer von zehn Jahren haben muss.
