Emend is prescribed to prevent sickness caused by these treatments and is typically used with other medicines.
The effect is maintained for a few days,thereafter slowly declines and is clinically insignificant by two weeks after end of EMEND treatment.
EMEND increased the AUC of midazolam 25% on Day 4 and decreased the AUC of midazolam 19% on Day 8 and 4% on Day 15.

One study in less emetogenic chemotherapy compared EMEND in the same way in 866 patients with breast cancer who were receiving cyclophosphamide with or without doxorubicin or epirubicin.
Emend 80 mg and 125 mg capsules are used with other medicines to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy(medicines used to treat cancer) in adults.
All three studies compared the effectiveness of Emend, taken in combination with dexamethasone and ondansetron, with that of the standard combination of dexamethasone and ondansetron.
Emend 80 mg and 125 mg must not be taken with the following medicines:• pimozide(used to treat mental illness);• terfenadine, astemizole(commonly used to treat allergy symptoms- these medicines may be available without a prescription);• cisapride used to relieve certain stomach problems.
After the end of treatment, EMEND causes a transient moderate induction of CYP2C9 and a transient mild induction of CYP3A4 and glucuronidation.
