This own-initiative opinion would look specifically at how the economic and social interest groups could participate constructively in the implementation of pan-European transport policy, particularly in the light of the exchange of letters between the section president,Mr Eulen, the Commissioner responsible for transport, Mr Kinnock, and the Director-General of DG VII, Mr Coleman.
Mr Eulen asked the rapporteur to clarify the reference to the green paper on protection of human dignity in audiovisual and information services(point 4.9) and the platform mentioned in the third indent of the recommendations.
At the closing plenary session, Mr Eulen, president of the ESC Section for Transport and Communications, proposed that the ESC relay the views of the economic and social players to the steering committees responsible for implementing the pan-European transport corridors.
Mr Eulen expressed his conviction that the new Committee would know how to build on the work carried out for this opinion and ensure that the ESC would continue to play a major role in implementing a genuine pan-European transport policy.
On the subject of pan-European transport policy, Mr Eulen drew attention to the role played by the ESC preparing the pan-European transport conferences and its contribution to the formulation of the Helsinki Declaration which had- in response to a request by the ESC- ratified the principle that the economic and social interest group should be consulted.
Mr Eulen, on the other hand, found that Mr Danusēvičs' proposal was an attempt to show that some groupings were necessary, as there were representatives of all EESC Groups in the AFM, and that the six seats on the bureau should be distributed among Member States or Groups.
