The president reported on that day's meeting with Mr Ferber, rapporteur of the European Parliament, during which they discussed the following matters.
The Ferber amendment with limits of 1 kg and 10 kg which links up with agreements of the Member States in the framework of the World Postal Union therefore deserves support.
That brings me to the last point that I would like to clarify.It is a shame that Mr Ferber is no longer here to listen to what I have to say, although I asked him to stay to hear me out.
Like Mr Ferber I would like to please Commissioner Bangemann and praise his insight into the problems and underline the need for a continued fight for a more deregulated and competitively neutral postal market.
Ladies and gentlemen, do not think that my heart has been softened by Mr Ferber' s arguments, but he actually had five minutes to speak and the services had only indicated two and a half minutes.
The next item is the recommendation for second reading, on behalf of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, on the accomplishment of the internal market in Community postal services 13593/6/2007- C6-0410/2007- rapporteur:Markus Ferber.
I should first like to thank Mr Ferber for his work in seeking a compromise between Parliament and the Council in such a politically sensitive area as postal services.
Motion for a resolution(B4-1033/97), submitted by Mr Simpson and Mrs Schmidbauer, on behalf of the Group of the Party of European Socialists,Mr Ferber, on behalf of the Group of the European People's Party and Mrs van Dijk on behalf of the Green Group, on terminal dues.
In particular, I would like to say to Mr Ferber and Mr Markov that we are really going to use all the margins for flexibility available to us on the cofinancing rate, invitations to tender and State aid.
Other reports by the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Budgetary Control,the most recent being the Ferber report, have also indicated the urgent need for a European party statute and for this matter to be regulated.

This is why I also endorse the text of the Ferber amendment, which states that some arrangement should be in place and that we will need to agree with each other on whether we need to look for an interim solution in this respect.
I wish to personally thank Terence Wynn, chairman of the Committee on Budgets, and the three rapporteurs, Jutta Haug,Markus Ferber and Joan Colom i Naval as well as all the members of the Committee on Budgets that I have had the pleasure of meeting during the six months of the French Presidency.
The next item is the report(A5-0138/2001) by Mr Ferber, on behalf of the Committee on Budgets, on the Draft Supplementary and Amending Budget 2/2001 of the European Union for the 2001 financial year 60/2001- C5-0153/2001- 2001/2026BUD.
It also noted the working document drawn up by the rapporteur, Mr Ferber, who was responsible for drafting the European Parliament's Report on the 2001 estimates of revenue and expenditure.
