I would like to thank Mr Brok and Mr Stubb for their reports and highlight the problems around the possible accession of Croatia, a country that has made considerable progress in recent years and can therefore meet the political and economic challenge of the Copenhagen criteria.
The president of the Budget Group, Mr Dimitriadis,reported on his contacts with the European Parliament and with Mr Stubb, the rapporteur for the CONT on the 2003 discharge for the other institutions.

In writing.-(FR) I voted for discharge to the Commission in respect of the implementation of the budget for the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th European Development Funds(EDFs) for the financial year 2006 on the basis of the report recommending that Parliament should grant discharge by Mr Fjellner,who in fact took over the very good work by Mr Stubb, who has been appointed a minister in the Finnish Government.
With the adoption of this package, business and SMEs will find it easier, as Mr Stubb said, to sell their products- common household goods, bicycles, ladders, tanks, containers etc.- while consumers should reap the benefit of a wider choice of high-quality and safe products.
And the report by Alexander Stubb, on behalf of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and the Council laying down procedures relating to the application of certain national technical rules to products lawfully marketed in another Member State and repealing Decision 3052/95/CE- C6-0065/2007.
Referring to the excellent relations which he had had with the EP rapporteur on the 2003 budget discharge,Mr Stubb(FI-EPP-ED), the President stressed the importance of developing good relations with the EP rapporteur on the 2006 budget, Mr Dombrovskis(LV-EPP-ED), and hoped that he would be invited in the near future to attend a Budget Group meeting.
In my opinion,this report is an opportunity to thank Alexander Stubb for his efforts to give some impetus to the Baltic region, which is actually a driver of modernisation in Northern Europe, and in this case could even be a driver of modernisation for the entire European Union.
