Powers Irish Whiskey owned by Irish Distillers at Midleton Distillery have just announced details of a complete rebranding of their iconic and historic Powers brand.
However as stock levels of the maturing whiskey casks grew,the age of blends of grain and pot still used in Midleton Very Rare also grew to somewhere between 15 and 21 years.
The nose was classic Midleton Whiskey, warm, spicy and rounded with a hint of toasted oak and some soft bees wax notes.
These compounds further enhance the whiskey with vanilla, caramel and chocolate flavours,which are detectable on the nose of Midleton Dair Ghaelach and perfectly balance the classically rich, spicy Single Pot Still taste profile.
They have now joined forces with Midleton to release an exclusive Sonny Molloys edition of Redbreast 16 Single Pot Still Whiskey at a cask strength.
In addition, each presentation case also carries a celebratory booklet and an extra 50 cl sample, in a smaller hand crafted bottle so that you can taste andshare your Midleton Pearl without opening your main bottle.

From the very first bottle produced in 1984, the Midleton Premium whiskeys have always had a close and personal association with Master Distiller Barry Crockett, who's personal signature adorned every bottle of Midleton ever released.
Bottled at cask strength between 58.1% and58.5% ABV without the use of chill filtration, Midleton Dair Ghaelach is available from April 2015 in five markets, including Ireland, France and South Africa, at the recommended selling price of about €250 per 70cl bottle.

Following, the presentation, each guest was poured a generous measure of Pearl in abeautiful Waterford Crystal Glass by their nearest Midleton host and being in the right place at the right time, I had the great honour as a relatively new Irish Whiskey writer, in having my own glass poured by Barry Crockett himself, before clinking glasses with Barry, Brian and Billy to toast the launch of what may well be the very best Irish Whiskey ever produced.
