Mr. FASEL(Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights(OHCHR)) recalled that at their 17th meeting, the chairpersons of the international human rights treaty bodies had requested the secretariat to continue its efforts to assist treaty bodies in analyzing statistical information in States parties' reports and to prepare a background paper for the next inter-committee meeting on the possible use of indicators A/60/278.
Mr. Fasel(Switzerland) said that there had been major developments in the area of conventional disarmament since the previous Review Conference in 2006, with the adoption of the Convention on Cluster Munitions and the growing importance of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention. The Fourth Review Conference was therefore an opportunity to examine the status of the Convention and its annexed Protocols in the light of the new situation and to determine the role that the Convention should play in the future.
