At this second session, two indigenous representatives were appointed as Vice-Chairpersons:Mr. Michael Dodson of the Northern Land Council, an indigenous organization in Australia, and Mrs. Rigoberta Menchú Tum, as representative of the International Indian Treaty Council.
The Secretary-General had appointed the following individuals as members of the Board of Trustees of the Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations for three-year terms. Ms. Tove Sövndahl Petersen(Denmark/Greenland), Mr. Ole Ntimama(Kenya), Ms. Victoria Tauli-Copuz(Philippines), Ms. Nina Pacari(Ecuador)and Mr. Michael Dodson Australia.

Noting the ongoing work of the Special Rapporteur(Michael Dodson) appointed by the Permanent Forum at its fifth session, on sui generis systems, customary law and the protection of traditional knowledge, the secretariat continues to be in touch with the Special Rapporteur to ensure that our efforts are mutually supportive.
The Forum welcomes the report presented by Bartolome Clavero, Lars Anders-Baer,Carsten Smith and Michael Dodson on the matter during its tenth session.
At its eighth session, in May 2009, the Permanent Forum appointed Carsten Smith and Michael Dodson, members of the Permanent Forum, as special rapporteurs to prepare a study on indigenous fishing rights in the seas, and requested that the report be submitted to the Permanent Forum at its ninth session, in April 2010.
The five members who have been appointed by the Secretary-General for a three-year term ending on 31 December 2002 are themselves indigenous experts:Victoria Tauli-Corpuz(Chairperson, Philippines), Michael Dodson(Australia), Naomi N. Kipuri(Kenya), José Carlos Morales(Costa Rica) and Tove Sovndahl Petersen Greenland/Denmark.
At the same meeting, Mr. Michael Dodson, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Advisory Group of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People, made a statement and a second statement on behalf of the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations, Mrs. Victoria TauliCorpuz.
The current five members whose term of office expires on 31 December 2002 are themselves indigenous experts: Victoria Tauli-Corpuz(Chairperson,Philippines), Michael Dodson(Australia), Naomi N. Kipuri(Kenya), José Carlos Morales(Costa Rica) and Tove Sovndahl Petersen Greenland/Denmark.
The Permanent Forum decides to appoint Michael Dodson and Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, Members of the Permanent Forum, as Special Rapporteurs to organize and undertake a technical review of the proposed international regime on access and benefit-sharing, as recommended in paragraph 48(i) of the report of the international expert group meeting on the international regime on access and benefit-sharing and indigenous peoples' human rights of the Convention on Biological Diversity E/C.19/2007/8.

At the 8th meeting, on 20 May, the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs made a presentation on the Second International Decade of the World 's Indigenous People, which was followed by an interactive dialogue between the Under-Secretary-General and the following members of the Forum: Otilia Lux de Coti, Aqqaluk Lynge, Nina Pacari Vega, William Langeveldt, Pavel Sulyandziga,Hassan Id Balkassm, Michael Dodson, Ida Nicolaisen, Wilton Littlechild, and Yuri Boychenko.
The secretariat continues to collaborate informally with Permanent Forum member and Special Rapporteur Michael Dodson, as well as other relevant international organizations(such as WIPO) to ensure that our common work on sui generis systems, customary law and the protection of traditional knowledge are mutually supportive.
Pursuant to Council resolution 2000/22 of 28 July 2000, the President of the Council appointed the following eight members for a three-year term beginning on 1 January 2008: Lars-Anders Baer(Sweden), Hassan Id Balkassm(Morocco),Elisa Canqui Mollo(Bolivia), Michael Dodson(Australia), Tonya Gonnella Frichner(United States of America), Margaret Lokawua(Uganda), Pavel Sulyandziga(Russian Federation) and Victoria Tauli-Corpuz Philippines.
The Advisory Group is composed of Ms. Erica I. Daes, Chairperson of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations;Mr. Michael Dodson(Chairperson-Rapporteur of the Advisory Group); Ms. Naomi N. Kipuri(recently appointed by the Secretary-General); Mr. José Carlos Morales Morales(recently appointed by the Secretary-General); Ms. Tove S. Petersen and Ms. Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, members of the Board of Trustees of the Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations; and Mr. José Luís Goméz del Prado recently appointed by the Coordinator of the Decade.
