Mr. Tarar(Pakistan), introducing the draft resolution, said that Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Lesotho, Mali and Mozambique had joined the sponsors.

Mr. Tarar further informed the Commission that three of its members, Messrs. Arshad, Haworth and Roest, had assisted Pakistan by providing scientific and technical advice.
The presentation of the submission of Pakistan to the Commission was made on 16 August by the head of delegation,Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar, Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, together with Ali Rashid Tabrez, Director General, National Institute of Oceanography; Asif Inam, Project Director, National Institute of Oceanography; and M. Mahmood, Deputy Chief, Maritime Affairs who provided a technical presentation.
Mr. TARAR(Pakistan) noted with satisfaction the publication of the Scientific Committee's fourteenth comprehensive report, which provided an evaluation of the sources and effects of ionizing radiation, and recommended that it should be widely disseminated in the scientific community and to the public at large.
Mr. Tarar(Pakistan) said that the Central African Republic, Guinea, Liberia, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Somalia and Uganda had also joined the sponsors.
Mr. Tarar(Pakistan) said that much remained to be done to achieve people-centred development based on education, full-employment and social integration.
Mr. Tarar(Pakistan) said that the alarming rise in the number of displaced persons and refugees required a coordinated response from the international community.
Mr. Tarar(Pakistan), speaking on behalf of the sponsors, said that the right to self-determination was the basic human right of nations and the very foundation for the enjoyment of all other human rights.
Mr. Tarar(Pakistan) said that his delegation endorsed the recommendations in the Special Committee's report, which detailed Israel's continuing massive violations of the rights of the Palestinian people.
Mr. Tarar(Pakistan) said that while some progress had been made towards achieving the MDGs, rampant inequality and poverty continued to fuel social unrest and political turmoil in many parts of the world.
Mr. Mustansar Tarar(Pakistan) said that the statement made by the representative of Pakistan had been based on comments made by the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir, Indian and international media and non-governmental organizations.
