In writing.-(FR) I voted in favour of the legislative resolution changing the proposal for a decision of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing an actionprogramme for the enhancement of quality in higher education and the promotion of intercultural understanding through co-operation with third countries(Erasmus Mundus)(2009-2013), and this on the basis of the report by Mrs de Sarnez.
The next item is the report by Mrs De Sarnez on behalf of the Committee on Culture and Education, on the proposal for a decision of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing an actionprogramme for the enhancement of quality in higher education and the promotion of intercultural understanding through cooperation with third countries(Erasmus Mundus)(2009-2013.- C6-0228/2007- 2007/0145)COD.

Recalls that appropriate measures should be developed in the framework of education in order to support educational programmes free from stereotypes, to include civic participation, human rights,gender equality, promotion of intercultural awareness and understanding, so as to better prepare students for citizenship;
Making available through Erasmus+ more than EUR 400 million in 2016 to transnational partnerships to develop innovative policy approaches andpractices at grass-root level, prioritising social inclusion, the promotion of common values and intercultural understanding.

World-wide, cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue have become major challenges for a global order based on peace, mutual understanding and respect for shared values, such as the protection and promotion of human rights and the protection of languages.
Cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue are an integral part of the values of the European Union and play an important role in the promotion of human rights, artistic freedom, respect and tolerance towards others, mutual understanding, conflict prevention, reconciliation and counter-extremism and contribute to democratisation, good governance and more peaceful societies;
